It is summer and I am staying in Falmouth, Massachusetts. While here, I love to get around to visit all things Cape Cod, including the historical Highfield Hall and Gardens. This restored Victorian estate has events going on all season. The staff gave me a preview of upcoming events which are listed here.
Highfield Hall is a restored Victorian that belonged to the Beebe Family.
Highfield Hall was built in 1878. It was rescued from ruin by concerned citizens of the Town of Falmouth and has been transformed into a center of culture and community activity. The Mission of Highfield Hall and Gardens is to preserve the estate by offering an environment to experience the arts, explore nature, and appreciate history. The Vision is to be a dynamic and unique museum providing opportunities for education, entertainment, and inspiration.
The Sunken Garden adjacent to the mansion was restored in 2011 utilizing documentary evidence of the Beebe’s original herbaceous garden with adjustments to provide seasonal color and ease of care.
A sculpture garden exhibit is presently being installed.
On today’s visit I found delightful vignettes of carved and turned wood vessels displayed on tables under beautiful works of art on the wall. Multiple artists are represented in multiple co-existing exhibits. The Art and Ability exhibit runs throughout the building as do the wood vessels.
As you check in, the first room on the left is a library that tells the story of Beebe Family estate and its various transformations over time and ownership.
Turned bowls and a beautiful photograph create a display that one lingers at for some time.
Light fills the room as I move on to what might have been a Victorian dining room, currently used as a wonderful space for concerts. The windows offer a beautiful view of the grounds. The dual fireplaces provide a sense of warmth and the mantles are perfect for art displays. I am always impressed by the way Highfield Hall is decorated. It is a multifunctional space. While listening to jazz, listeners can admire the art on display. There is so much to take in. Each room in the mansion is decorated in a unique way, depending on the exhibit. There is another central room, and hallway, and a library on the first floor, plus rooms and a grand hallway upstairs, all decorated with art.

Highfield Hall and Gardens is open for daily visitation April 15th – October 31st, Tuesday – Friday 10am4pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am-2pm. Closed Mondays except holidays. They are open year-round for programming, special events, and private functions and you may explore the grounds from dawn to dusk daily. The building is handicapped accessible.
Highfield Hall and Gardens is a vibrant part of the Falmouth and Upper Cape community. It offers something for all ages and celebrates all types of art forms. I highly recommend visiting periodically because something is always new and different with each visit.
