A Review of the AMP Art Paper Fair in NYC

A Review of the AMP Art Paper Fair in NYC

On Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, I visited the AMP Art on Paper Fair at Pier 36 in Manhattan. I have always enjoyed this art fair because, by the nature of paper, it is not nearly as precious as other NY art fairs. I observed some styles that may interest our group in terms of what’s trending right now in the art market. The most outstanding trend was the collage with intricate detail and floral elements.

There were many examples of this, including some with hand stitching and beading. Lorraine Glessner’s work is a good example of this style but I don’t think she was represented there. The second most prominent type of work was pieces with geometric shapes in bold colors.

Many were serigraphs. For the most part, the pieces were clean and spare, within the rectangle. Most works were under 24”x 26”. There were also print coops selling small pieces for under $50.

Poured paints and new materials were shown, mostly acrylic paints. Handmade books and cut-out paper were also on display. Leslie Giuliani’s work was on exhibit. I met a gallerist from Boston’s Chase Young Gallery on Harrison Ave. This gallery represents Alicia Tormey. Overall, there was a lot of buying going on. I am including three photos from the show. I recommend this fair because it is casual, not too big, and colorfully interesting.
