Transatlantic Fusion: The Diptych Project Part II
We are pleased to announce an exhibition of 50 artists, including members of New England Wax and members of the European Encaustic Artists. This is part II of the Diptych Project with works not shown before.
This exhibit is the culmination of a four-year project. The first exhibition occurred in Provincetown, Massachusetts in May of 2022 at The Commons with the first set of diptychs created by each partner. This is the second set. The 50 works form an artistic dialog between each pair of artists, one American and one European, randomly selected. We began the project in 2020 by sending an image of our piece to our partner creating a theme of our own choosing. Each artist responded to make a total of 2 sets of diptychs.
Phase 1 Organizers of this project: Donna Hamil-Talman, Sarah Springer, Kay Hartung, Otty Merril, Holly Trudeau Berube, (New England Wax), Ursi Lysser, Bettina Egli Sennhauser (European Encaustic Artists).
Phase 2 Organizers: Ursi Lysser, Beate Kratt, Barbara Niederberger, (European Encaustic Artists), Pamela Dorris DeJong, Sarah Springer, (New England Wax)
A virtual exhibition went on-line on our NEW blog: https://belowthesurfaceblog.com/transatlantic-fusion/ at the time of our first exhibition in May/June of 2022.
The organizers of the second exhibition also plan to create a virtual exhibition.
Monika Bethmann, one of the gallerists, and Ursi Lysser, a participating artist, both gave a talk about the project at the opening reception on July 7, 2024. It was well attended and the artists who could be there had a great time!
After the reception, the artists and their guests met at Café im Goebenhaus, a short walk away.
The artists, sitting together at separate tables, were able to spend a little time talking with each other over German food and a delightful choice of cakes, for which the Café is famous.
The following artists were able to attend, from America: Pamela Dorris DeJong, Heather Leigh Douglas, Lelia Stokes Weinstein, from the UK: Anne Berendt, Lyn Kirkland, From Switzerland, Ursi Lysser, Barbara Niederberger, From Germany: Beate Kratt, Claudia Wieninger.
Danke Schoen to Monika and Harald, the gallerists, Ursi, Barbara, and Beate, the organizers, and all participating artists in this project.

Wonderful showing of a fantastic show. The pictures tell so much about this quaint city, welcoming gallery and the spectacular collaboration between the American and European artists. Thank you to all who did the work to make this happen.
Looks like a great show. Sorry I missed it! Congrats to everyone…
Thanks so much Pamela for giving us a glimpse of the show and the fun times had by those who could go!
Looks amazing! Wish I had been able to go. Thank you Pamela for sharing your photos and writing this blog!
Thank you Pam for writing about this unique and wonderful collaboration. I feel so fortunate to have been a part of this, to have been able to travel to Germany for the opening and to finally have met my lovely partner, Lyn Kirkland, in person. I hope there will be other opportunities to work with these amazing European artists in the future.
This has been such an enriching project.
Thanks Pamela for sharing this wonderful blog
with us!
